We love helping clients grow their families through adoption! We have dedicated ourselves to a deep understanding of the process and the factors that the Tennessee Department of Children's Services will consider when determining an individual or family's fitness to adopt. If a dispute arises, we will fiercely advocate for our client and the best interests of the child.

Second-Parent and Stepparent Adoption

For same-sex couples or blended families, a non-biological parent may legally adopt the child(ren) of the biological parent. Both adoption methods allow the biological parent and the adoptive parent to retain equal and full parental rights.

Adult Adoption

Adult adoption occurs when an individual who has reached the age of 18 years old is adopted by another adult. Adult adoptions may be completed without the consent of the adoptee's biological parents, unless the adoptee has been found to be incompetent by the court.

Readoption

In situations where a child is adopted a second or subsequent time by new parents, or has been adopted under the laws of a foreign jurisdiction and the adoptive parents seek to enter an order of adoption in Tennessee, adoptive parents have the option to re-adopt. The law and requirements vary depending on the situation.
